How to Winterize Your Car

Is your car ready for winter? Keep you and your family safe by winterizing your vehicle—it’s easier than you think and will keep your car functioning properly when the temperatures drop.

Here are a few tips from the Carz R’ Us team to help prepare your car for freezing temps:

Check the coolant-
Engine coolant doesn’t just keep your engine from overheating; it also protects it against corrosion. The engine cooling system should be filled with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and distilled water to prevent freezing and boiling over. If you have added water to your coolant system at any point during the summer this service is extremely important. The water in the engine block and other components can freeze when temperature drops and can cause major damage. Now through December 23rd, we’re offering a $54.95 coolant flush. Plus, we’re donating 10% of all coolant and heating system services to Youth Services Network of Rockford.

Change the oil-
Another important step to help your engine work well in winter weather is making sure you’re using the proper oil for the conditions. Remember to change the oil and oil filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Schedule your appointment to take advantage of our $29.95 oil change special.

Check your starting and charging system-
To help your engine start easier check your starting and charging system: battery and alternator. A thorough inspection of your battery, cables, terminals, and fluids will help you make sure your car is ready for the winter.

Inspect and/or replace your tires-
Driving on snowy and icy roads can be difficult and sometimes dangerous. Mounting the right tires on your car or truck can give you a huge advantage when trekking through the snow. Maintain your current tires by having your tires rotated and balanced, and check for uneven wear. Tires that are unevenly worn or out of balance can cause a car to pull or shake, potentially damaging other components. If you’re ready to purchase new tires, we offer competitive prices on the tire brands you trust and you can even pick out your tires directly from the Carz R’ Us website. Tire rebates up to $160 available through December 31st.

Test your wipers-
Make sure your windshield wipers are working properly and you have plenty of washer fluid.

Get an emergency kit-
If you don’t already have an emergency kit in your car, consider putting together a few basics like blankets, flares, flashlight, engine oil, coolant and washer fluid.

We wish you safe travels this holiday season and throughout the winter months.
