Founded on January 22nd, 2009 by the Aukes Family, Carz R Us is an automotive service center located in the heart of Machesney Park, Illinois. What initially began as a small shop at 1020 Ralston Rd that was part of a retail strip has grown to become a state-of-the-art, 10-bay facility with plenty of room for future expansion. So, how did we get here?
We’d love to share our story.
Growing up around an uncle that owned an auto repair shop created a passion in Matt for the automotive industry, but there was always a love for music as well. In high school, the love for music overtook the passion for cars and desire to run a business. This led Matt to attend college at NIU majoring in music education. After college he taught high school band for six years. Music education ended up not being a long term career fit.

So, how does one go from teaching high school band to opening an auto repair shop? After his teaching career ended, Matt focused his efforts on learning about business by training in taxes, legal, real estate, management, personal development, team development and client satisfaction. These learning areas have been developed over the last 17+ years. During this time, Matt started working on his late father’s 1967 Camaro, revitalizing the passion for cars.
In November 2008, the Aukes Family purchased their first location – a building with an auto repair shop, restaurant, and salon and opened January 22, 2009. About a year & a half into operating the business it was discovered that the building was slated for demolition due to the widening of Ralston Road. Wow, what a surprise and scare this was. We did not know where we would end up or if we would even be able to stay in business. Opportunity knocked & the perfect location became available. The family made a bold decision and built a brand new facility close by, on the southwest corner of Routes 173 and 251. This new facility has been a blessing allowing Carz R Us to grow to what it is today.

We also offer shuttle service, complimentary loaner cars and vehicle pick up service, which will let you know you have found your next home for all your vehicle needs.
